Errata

Peninsula Pioneer Errata

Inevitably some errors creep in during the preparation of a book, and despite all attempts to eliminate them, some slip through. Thankfully no major errors have come to light, but a there are a few corrections which should be noted for the sake of accuracy. The page numbers in Peninsula Pioneer are shown.

Page ii: the captions of the rear cover upper middle and lower middle photographs are reversed.
Page 3: J.C.Darke was speared on 22 Oct 1844, not 1944.
Pages 9, 12, 14, 58, 80, 88, 107 and 266: photographs attributed to 'Eric O’Connor Collection, courtesy Eyre Peninsula Local History Group' should read 'Eric O’Connor Collection, courtesy Southern Eyre Peninsula Family and Local History Group'.
Page 36: photograph at top of page is of a train ready to leave Buckleboo, not arriving there.
Page 60: first paragraph in the second column, the completion of the 'super port' project was 1978/79, not 1968/69.
Page 108: David Parsons has identified an error relating to the internal layout of car 174 Wandana which has been perpetuated in the published literature since 1958. This car arrived at Port Lincoln in 1917 configured with 12 berths and 4 chairs.
Page 108: photograph should be credited to 'Photographer unknown, Michael Thomas collection'.
Pages 116, 117 and 119: In tables 9.10, 9.11 and 9.14 the times shown at Cummins for the Saturday Kimba - Port Lincoln railcar should be 'am', not 'pm'.
Pages 117 and 121: 'Appendix D' should read 'Appendix F'.
Page 128: John Knowles advises that the charter run of Brill 101 and Short Tom coach to Mount Hope was on 5 January 1964, not December 1963.
Page 160: the date of the top photograph should be 29 Dec 1985, not 1988.
Page 166: the bottom photograph should be credited to National Railway Museum Archives.
Page 199: caption at foot of page, 'out of site to the right' should read 'out of sight to the right'.
Page 225: the diagram of the T class locomotive should not include the extra adhesion blocks on the footplate.
Page 226: the condemnation date for T217 in Table 18.8 should be 31 Oct 1968, not 1966.
Page 242: the caption of the photograph should identify the first Fageol as no. 107, not 109.
Page 255: the rear view of a Fageol railcar is Fageol 110. The other two views are Fageol 109.
Page 257: MIC-7 and MIC-8 were built as standard gauge, not narrow gauge vehicles.
Page 261: car 174 Wandana arrived on Eyre Peninsula in 12 berth 4 chair configuration, and was not modified internally in 1925 (see note for page 108).
Page 266: Richard Horne has identified the location of the D wagon photo as being in the yard of Brown, Marshalls & Co. Ltd. of the Britannia Railway, Carriage and Wagon Works, Birmingham, UK. Although fitted with Cleminson's patented radial undergear, the D wagons were built by Brown, Marshalls & Co.
Page 268: the HAN hoppers were the only South Australian Railways aluminium-bodied wagons built at Islington Workshops. However Islington did build the centre sections which were spliced into the ex-CR NHB hoppers to make the HCN grain hoppers for Eyre Peninsula, and Islington also built twenty-one QF (later HF) aluminium-bodied coal hoppers for AN Tasmania in 1982.
Page 269: Ongoing research has revealed that H class bolster flat wagons ran on Eyre Peninsula in the early years. Insert the following row into Table 20.2 between the GF and HAN class entries:
Page 281: The twelve SFN vans in the photo are not the auto-coupled group. They have 'chopper' couplings.

MM1261 and 1502-1505 to Port Lincoln 1929, others to Port Lincoln 1937-38. 1261 and 1503-1505 condemned 1936, 5551 and 5638 condemned 1950. Remainder to FM flat wagons 1948-53.'
Page 278: NHA/ENHA class, remarks column, should read '...identical in appearance to the NH class' (not HN class); also NHAs went to Tasmania, not HNAs.
Page 278: ENHG class, text in Remarks column should refer to 'ENHG1 built...' and 'ENHG2-8 built...' (not ENHT).
Page 278: BA/AHTF/NHG/ENHT class should read BA/AHTY/NHG/ENHT (not AHTF) in Class column.
Page 280: The date of the photo of the ENOB wagon should be 26 Feb 1986, not 1984.
Page 287: 901 date in service should be 10 Jul 1885; date converted to employee sleeping van 25 Mar 1925.
Page 287: 3054 date to Port Lincoln should be 2 Feb 1928, not 1926.
Page 288: The location of the photo of sheep ramp CR2476 is Warramboo, not Kopi.
Page 307: the caption of the top photograph should identify BAS627.
Page 320 (Appendix H): the opening date for Port Lincoln - Cummins should be 18 Nov 1907, not 11 Nov 1907.
